Pretty poinsettias are a holiday decor staple for a reason—but that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative with your centrepiece this year. Give tried-and-true poinsettias a break and try one of these festive ideas to brighten your table instead.

Seasonal plants

If you’re still feeling florals, give another type of plant a chance this time of year. Frosted fern, amaryllis, wintergreen, or even a beautiful bundle of rosemary can add a fresh look to your seasonal table setting.

Rustic outdoor accessories

For a Scandinavian-inspired look, forage for pine cones, branches, and fresh greenery to arrange in bowls, or artfully display them around candles

Garlands

For more subtle table decor, elegantly placed garlands add visual interest without taking up too much space. Try colourful pom-pom garlands twisted with twinkle lights, boughs of greenery interspersed with candles, or layer a festive table runner with garlands made of wooden beads or berries.

Snow globes

Arrange trios of snowglobes in various sizes and at different heights for a winter wonderland effect—or better yet, create your own snow globes out of glass jars, ornaments, and fake snow. Weave twinkle lights around them for a magical touch.

Bits ‘n’ baubles

Have too many ornaments for the tree? Repurpose your leftover baubles to make a fun holiday centrepiece by filling glass votives, vases, or jars with trinkets of different shapes and sizes.

Use a pedestal

A pretty cake stand is a fun way to elevate your table display. You could create a miniature holiday village, or arrange a collection of vintage Christmas trees or Santa Clauses.

Fresh fruit

Do double duty with a centrepiece that’s both decorative and edible! Tiers or bowls of artfully arranged citrus fruit adds a pop of colour to your holiday tablescape.
