It’s the end of summer and the beginning of a new season. It’s a great time to update your look, both inside and out. I am talking décor here, although a change of season can trigger many changes both inside and out, personally as well.

There is no reason to spend a lot of money to get that autumn vibe happening in your home. Starting with inside the house and working your way out is how I usually begin the seasonal change over. I like to get the most out of my planters, so I leave them outside until last.

There are some easy tips and tricks and a ton of style blogs to help you along the way. If you are an Instagram fan you can find a few of our favourites on our Instagram pages @WrightGroup and @DeCluteRealEstate. There is no need to start from scratch when a few subtle changes will do fine.

I like to set the tone from the front entrance and carry it through the house. Hang your brightly coloured rain jackets and wind breakers on your coat hooks above your rubber boots to announce the season. Placing a few small white pumpkins on your entry way table to greet your guests. You could also put them under glass in a display or fill a vase or basket, mixing white or orange varieties along with some gourds. I like to add natural elements as much as I can to bring the outdoors inside. Fill narrow mouthed vases and jugs with large branches, fruit trees seem to be the most interesting shapes, colours and sizes. Strip the leaves from the branches and leave any berries to dry on the branch. These can also be nicely decorated with cob webs at Halloween.

Stow wood beside the fireplace in anticipation of cooler nights. A tall wire basket is a wonderful place to hold tall white pieces of birch both outdoors and in.

Out on the front porch, add a big autumn wreath to dress your door and change the front boot mat to celebrate the season and invite your guests in. Add pumpkins of all sizes around the door or steps. You don’t have to choose orange in fact you can paint your pumpkins, try chevron stripes, two tones and even add your house number. Stack your pumpkins by using different sized small tables or even a bale of straw. Add some seasonal toss cushions and a rich warm plaid throw to your outdoor seating. Buy a few giant mums and line your steps and walk ways with them, intermingling with the pumpkins for even for fall punch. Use miniature mums on your tables.
