Seeing green lately? Earth Day is right around the corner, and it’s motivation for us all to evaluate how we can be more environmentally conscious and energy efficient—especially when it comes to our homes. Here are some incentives you can take advantage of to make your home greener for the future.

Canada Greener Homes Grant

This federal grant program helps homeowners make energy efficient upgrades to not only help Canada meet environmental and emissions goals, but to save you money. The initiative offers up to 700,000 grants of $5,000 to make homes greener, plus you could qualify for an EnerCare evaluation, worth up to $600, to have experts determine how to retrofit your home with energy-efficient solutions. Live in Toronto? Consider these incentives

The City of Toronto also offers homeowners solutions and rebates to help make homes more energy efficient, including:

    • Improve your air sealing. If you’re an Enbridge Gas customer, complete a Home Energy Audit and receive up to $150.
    • Choose an efficient furnace. Time for an upgrade? Enbridge customers can get $750 for purchasing a high-efficiency furnace.
  • Get an eco-roof. If you’re considering a new roof, keep ‘eco-roofs’ in mind. These include green (or living) roofs that support vegetation growth, and cool roofs that reflect the sun and prevent heat buildup. Both options save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create wildlife and pollinator habitats. Learn more about the incentives and how to apply.
  • Try a home energy loan. This year, the city is launching a Home Energy Loan Program to help Toronto homeowners get a low-interest loan of up to $125,000 to help with home improvements. These can include the installation of rooftop solar panels, window and door replacements, adding electric vehicle charging stations, upgrading to high-efficiency water heaters, and more. • Switch to a smart thermostat. A smart thermostat helps you manage and optimize your home’s heating and cooling (even when you’re away) to save energy and cut down your bills. Upgrade and get a $75 discount on one with Enbridge.
  • Increase your insulation. Enbridge offers various rebates that range from $500-$3,000, depending on how you better insulate your home. This could include insulating exterior walls, the basement and crawl spaces, and the attic.
