There are some simple and fun ways to hurry Spring along and add some life back into our surroundings after what feels like a long and cold stretch of winter. Take colour for example. March is an excellent time of year to bring some colour to every room of your house.

The 2019 Pantone Colour of the Year is a life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone called Living Coral. This is an animating, energizing colour with a softer edge to enliven any room.

Don’t be shy to try Living Coral or some of the amazing new paint colours of 2019.

If you aren’t up for painting or redecorating, don’t worry. We have some fun and easy tips for an easy March makeover and a chance to bring some Spring into your life. It all begins at the grocery store, starting with the produce aisle. This is the time of year to fill and refill the fruit bowl. Add some colour by putting together a big bowl of bright oranges, a glass vase filled with lemons or limes and a simple tray lined with apples, bananas or even squash. It is an easy and practical way to get a pop of colour.

March is a delightful time in real estate, especially for our staging crew. They love to revitalize and fill a house with life and colour. Sometimes they begin with a theme, and in the early spring, it is often one that signifies new beginnings, just as the Spring does. A real sign that old man winter is almost out the door, and mother nature can work her magic. For a centrepiece, they will often use a tray with a nest, a few eggs, or a tall vase with forsythia or pussy willow branches loaded with buds, just ready to burst open with texture and colour.

Make a commitment to add some colour for March and before you know it, just as the bulbs indoors start to fade the bulbs outdoors will be popping up.  Use tall glass cylinder vases for your bulbs, and for more interest sit the bulbs on top of the soil rather than under the soil. Remember that the many shades of green are a sure sign a life. Try adding a rich, beautiful bright moss to a tray or top an empty planter with moss until you have some bulbs growing or even use moss to cover the clips around your orchids. A simple shiny green ivy, a light frosty fern or a gorgeous vibrant lime hydrangea which come in the most incredible shades of Spring. If flowers and fruit aren’t your things don’t worry about it you can still brighten and lighten up your look with green beer during your St. Patrick’s Day festivities.

At this time of the year, I make it a point to open up the curtains and shades every day and swap out those dark toss cushions and heavy, chunky throws for lighter fabrics and brighter colours. Then, add some tabletop books or magazines with big beautiful images. Change out your floor mats and area rugs for the season and lighten up your space for fabrics loaded with colour.

The groundhog has spoken, you can celebrate old man winter’s emerging departure.
