Summer doesn’t officially arrive until June 21st, but the weather says summer, albeit with a sputtering start to spring. This season can be a really hectic time of year. Time to open the cottage and put in the dock, it’s the end of the school year and that can trigger all kinds of life changes. New friends, new schools, a graduation and for some people even a move. The busiest closing day for land titles typically falls at the end of June, with buyers planning to settle into their new homes over the summer.

If you are anything like me the arrival of the warm weather is simply a time to haul out the patio furniture and take stock of the garden and the effect of a long winter on it. I love to spend time in the garden. I am always inspired by the colours and textures of the new plants as they arrive for the season and look forward to watching them grow.

This a great time to change your décor for the season, two simple and easy ideas: pull up the rugs and perhaps have them cleaned and stored until autumn, and switch out your solid darker toss cushions for some bright patterns and bold colours. It is a good time to take stock of all of the “stuff” that you no longer need. I love to stroll neighborhoods and check out garage sales. There are lots of great finds at garage sales and it is a great way to meet your neighbours if you are new to the hood. We just hosted our 10th annual Yard Sale for the Cure, and in doing so we are able to raise some money for cancer research. Maybe after your décor change it is time to host a garage sale? The summer season can trigger a fresh start in many different ways, and I wish everyone a very safe and happy June!
