It’s no secret that we love the Beaches, and not just because of the beautiful homes and friendly vibe here. The neighbourhood is also known for the incredible lifestyle it offers, and that includes top-notch dining options. No matter what you’re in the mood for, from Mediterranean to Mexican and beyond, you’ll find it in our east end enclave—and trust us, you won’t be disappointed!

If you’re looking to grab a bite in the Beaches, here are five places we highly recommend checking out…

1) Veloute

We couldn’t talk about the food scene in the Beaches without mentioning Veloute. This bistro is a well-known staple in the local food scene, and for good reason. Step inside, and you’ll be charmed by the chic dining room, which manages to be both welcoming and elegant. The food lives up to the first impression that the eatery makes. Flavourful French dishes (think duck leg confit and savoury bouillabaisse) combine with Italian influences to ensure that every item on the menu is worth sampling.

2) Green Eggplant

Green Eggplant is one of those restaurants that offers a little bit of something for everyone. Here you’ll find hearty Mediterranean dishes for even the most discerning palettes. Fresh fish and perfectly-prepared steak will satisfy those with carnivorous cravings, while the salads are a cut above what you’re used to (don’t leave without trying the caesar). Great dessert and drink menus round out the dining experience nicely, while the lively atmosphere will make you think twice about opting for the takeout option!

3) Xola

If there’s anything we love more than Mexican food, it’s enjoying it close to home. Xola is the perfect place to do that. This Queen Street East eatery draws diners from across the city, but those of us in the Beaches don’t have to travel far for its flavourful dishes and authentic margaritas! If you’re looking for a starter, the fresh ceviche can’t be beat. Then there are the tacos. From beef brisket to white fish to slow-cooked pork, every filling is a winner. For those who are extra adventurous, there’s even a grasshopper version…

4) Yumei

Yumei is the kind of neighbourhood sushi spot that feels like home—but don’t let the relaxed atmosphere fool you. You’ll find chef (and owner) Young Lee hard at work, creating some of the best Japanese dishes you’ve ever tasted. His over 35 years of experience are on full display here. Fresh cuts of sashimi, crispy tempura, and rolls bursting with freshness will tickle your tastebuds, and the presentation of each dish will be absolutely gorgeous. We suggest trying the Upper Beach Maki, which pays homage to our east end neighbourhood.

5) ViVetha Bistro

The east end of the Beaches is home to a fine-dining gem unlike any other in Toronto. Whether you’re in the mood for tender veal scaloppini, perfectly-seasoned rosemary chicken, or a full three-course lobster dinner, ViVetha Bistro is the place to indulge. This classic east end eatery also does one of the best brunches in town (if you’re feeling decadent, the Grand Marnier french toast is really something special).
